Synaptic - unable to enter text in proxy authentication field

I have upgraded to Mint 17, fresh install. I am trying to setup my proxy

in synaptic package manager under network, I tick manual as I always did, then click the Authentication box, my the box does not want me to write in it.

I did try and Google the error and read some forums, but without any help.

What might be the problem.

May someone please be so kind in telling me if this is an error and if it is, how long does it takes to fix it.
Otherwise I need to look elsewhere for the problem

Note to Ubuntu: The versions of Synaptic in Mint and Ubuntu differ. I added Linux Mint to the list of projects being affected so we could tackle it there in case this bug isn't valid in Ubuntu.

Hi, I've the same trouble on ubuntu 14.04 (almost fresh install).

I managed to fill those fields using right click and then paste.

hi, I can observe the same behavior in Ubuntu Trusty, and I have been able to see the same just today in Debian 8.1.
Perhaps this should be reported upstream?
