Bug Description

Binary package hint: sun-java5-jre

I have already reported this bug aianst the Debian package:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=416452

Basically, when /etc/localtime is not a symlink, the Java runtime cannot reliably detect the system timezone. Depending on the _order_ of directories in /usr/local/share/zoneinfo it could detect other zones like "SystemV/PST8PDT". This causes incorrect localtime calculation.

This bug is also present in sub-java6-jre.

Engineers from Sun have contacted me aksing for some more details and it appears they working on fixing it.

Changed in sun-java5:
status: Unknown → Unconfirmed
