I guess it could also fit for an SRU in Xenial. The current version in 16.04 is a snapshot of 0.23.0-devel.

The difficult and time-consuming part of packaging the latest Shotwell point release will be updating the Ubuntu Online Accounts stuff to the new autotools build system introduced in 0.23.3.

I would advise to stick to 0.24.x or wait for a more mature 0.25.x.

The outdated version in zesty doesn't work anymore. So an upgrade would be really good.

Kai, please file a new bug with details about how shotwell doesn't work in zesty.

Comment #2 is the reason shotwell is stuck at 0.22/0.23

Debian has packaged 0.25.4+really0.24.5-0.1 (they rolled back from 0.25) in Sid.

I see that the current version in Ubuntu carries a delta though, so a newer version will likely need to be merged from Debian (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Merging). (Some of the changes include Unity support and I don't know if they have made their way upstream or into Debian)

Here's a proposed diff of the debian/ directory.

The biggest change is dropping Ubuntu Online Accounts support because no one has stepped up to update the patch.

Upstream has converted from simple Makefiles to autotools so that simplifies a few things.
