Bug Description

Binary package hint: screen

As per bug #727738 in dpkg, I am stuck with an old /usr/bin/screen left behind by a screen-profiles package:

mas90@callisto:~$ dpkg -S /usr/bin/screen
diversion by screen-profiles from: /usr/bin/screen
diversion by screen-profiles to: /usr/bin/screen.real
screen: /usr/bin/screen
mas90@callisto:~$ dpkg -L screen-profiles
Package `screen-profiles' is not installed.
mas90@callisto:~$ ls -l /usr/bin/screen /usr/bin/screen.real
-rwxr-sr-x 1 root utmp 376032 2009-07-06 06:37 /usr/bin/screen
-rwxr-sr-x 1 root utmp 376112 2010-06-18 22:13 /usr/bin/screen.real

Whilst this isn't screen's fault, it would be useful for the time being if Ubuntu's screen package detected this brokenness (which I suspect to be the cause of various other bugs reported in screen) and reverted the diversion if screen-profiles is not installed.

Furthermore, the /usr/bin/screen I'm left with has a tendency to segfault every few days (bug #644825 and/or bug #375625?).

I think this is probably the same issue as in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=471763 -- the main issue there is though the broken permissions which also seem to be a screen-profiles leftover.

The Debian bug is mainly talking about a different issue, and merely mentions the screen-profiles divert as the cause. I do not think this bug should be flagged 'incomplete'.

I'm marking this wont-fix. The screen-profiles diversion has been gone for ages, and shouldn't affect any recent installs/users.
