Bug Description
npm is already at version 2.5.1 (February 2015, version 3.4.0 on November 2015) and Ubuntu is still packaging version 1.4.21 which was released in July 2014. Version 2.0 introduced significant improvements in terms of its run-script functionality and on other areas. It's a potentially backwards-
Users can always install the latest npm themselves, but it would be nice to have a more recent version in the package repository.
