Bug Description

Binary package hint: nexuiz

Nexuiz 2.4 was released today. Please update the package. (I know it probably won't make HH since a game isn't likely to merit a FFe, so this is just for future reference).

Changelog:

Completely new menu design and UI graphics, allowing easier server browsing, player setup, and game creation options such as gametype and mutators
Two additional maps (Strength and BloodPrison CTF)
Updated models for several items and three weapons, new gibs, and many texture improvements throughout the game
Improved performance, networking, and memory usage
Graphical improvements including water reflections, completely new particle effects, and improved fog rendering
Improved bots, including AI improvements for CTF and Domination game modes
Improved map voting system

This needs a Feature Freeze Exception, but I think it's a worthwhile one. The improvements are mind-blowing... This brings Nexuiz's graphics and gameplay above some of its commercial competitors

really? wow. i haven't actually played the updated version myself, so i didn't realize the changes are that significant.
even though i was hoping for it, i thought a game update would have had a snowball's chance in hades of getting a FFe. cool. can't wait to try it.

Here is the process if you want to try to obtain a freeze exception: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess#head-1d28045481b8803d4815989e93edc4206f4848c4

It's not just matter of features and fixes, 2.3 will become obsolute really quickly! Almost 90% servers are already switched to 2.4 and the game is not cross-version compatible... Shipping nexuiz 2.3 with hardy is just useless, as it is at the moment useless at gutsy (and I am still searching for painless upgrade on my gutsy to 2.4)

Nexuiz is packaged a little "strangely." There's no source package, per se, but there are source zip files contained in the binary release. Because of that, getting a good diff is a bit hard. What I've done is unpacked both the 2.3 and 2.4 releases, done the diffstat on the binary, then unpacked the various source zips and done an overall diffstat on the result

I guess you're referring to:

build log (as file)
    * pbuilder has the --logfile option.
install log
    * for instance a copy and paste of the install messages from console when installing
mention what testing you've done to see that it works
    * a screenshot showing the main features could also be nice

Unfortunately, the package is a not a usual source package, so I don't really know how to build it. There's no configure script, just a BSDMakefile. In fact, nexuiz and nexuiz-data have separate source packages, and part of the source (the enginesource) is split into one package, and the other part of the source (gamesource) is split into the data package.

So if someone else can help out with that, then that would help.

Oh yes, please get nexuiz 2.4 into hardy, it's a huge improvement over 2.3. And since this is a game and not a critical part of the system, it shouldnt make a difference :-)

side note: the 2.4 will require an updated fteqcc for the data pacakge (uploaded today to unstable), so this one will need an exception as well. Others than that, it imho makes sense to wait for Fuddl uploading a new version to unstable first.
