Bug Description

When a 3 column label sheet is chosen for printing addresses with mailmerge, columns 2 and 3 are aligned further and further to the left. On Avery 5160, the rightmost column (3) is aligned so far to the left that it does not print fully on the label. This has been reported as Debian Bug #678813 and LibreOffice #58700.

Problem description:
When printing with mailmerge on a sheet of labels with 3 columns, the column spacing is not calculated correctly. Column 1 is more or less OK, but columns 2 and 3 are aligned more and more to the left, so that column 3 does not print on the label.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a mailmerge with a database of addresses to print on labels.
2. Select Avery Letter Size 5160 labels
3. Print and notice above described behavior.

Current behavior:
As above.
Expected behavior:
I would expect that printing would align the same on labels of all three columns.

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 3.5.4 release

DrKay, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please attach your Avery 5160 file, and URL from where you downloaded the original from if applicable?

I don't know what you mean by Avery 5160 file. Is this stored somewhere on my computer? I used LibreOffice Writer. I clicked File -> New -> Labels, then select Avery Letter Size, then 5160.

I did not download anything.

Thank you.

DrKay, could you please provide exact, click-for-click instructions on how you built your Avery 5160 label file? So far, we have click File -> New -> Labels -> tab Labels -> drop down Brand Avery Letter Size -> drop down Type 5160. Anything else or did you just immediately click New Document after the above mentioned steps?

You will probably need to print this on an Avery 5160 sheet to see what happens. Additionally, it seems that no amount of customizing/adjusting under the Format tab can correct this--or at least I couldn't.

DrKay, as a WORKAROUND, when you click the tab Format, if you adjust the "Horizontal pitch", and/or "Left margin" can you get a usable print out?

As well, does the Microsoft provided Avery 5160 compatible document noted in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1093401/comments/11 provide a WORKAROUND?

Christopher-

Thank you for your attention to this bug!

For almost 2 hours, I adjusted the settings in the Format tab. I first carefully measured the Avery 5160 labels, then ensured that the proper measurements were entered in the format provided. When this did not work, I attempted to compensate by making adjustments to the settings that would push the 2nd and 3rd columns to the right (the LibreOffice Format tab has a really nice preview feature that shows you what each adjustment is doing as you make the adjustment). Unfortunately, no matter what I did, it could not push the 2nd and 3rd columns over, even though it looked like it should work on the format preview.

I have not tried the Microsoft Avery 5160 template--I didn't know it was available when I was doing my mailing. Also, it has a lengthy Terms of Use that you must agree to to be allowed to use it.

What value(s) for the Horizontal pitch and/or Left margin did you use specifically?

So I'm not going to go out and purchase the labels but from spot checking, they look right.

Attaching a pdf print.

@James - can you print the pdf and see if the labels are aligned? If they aren't I'll just say the bug is confirmed.

Nevermind -found some labels - indeed confirmed

Marking as:

Major - in general I wouldn't say this but it essentially makes the print to labels useless - I would be surprised if it's not a duplicate somewhere
High - default, seems appropriate
