Bug Description

[Impact]

 * The icinga menu displays briefly and then disappears.

 * The Debian and Ubuntu packages use the system-installed versions of jQuery rather than the embedded-in-source version upstream tests against. Upstream had not yet tested against the version of jQuery in 16.04/16.10 and so this went unnoticed. Upstream has fixed their compatibility with newer jQuery and this backports the same fix.

[Test Case]

 * Install icinga and after configuration, navigate to http://<ip>/icingaweb. The left-hand menu will display briefly and then disappear.

 * A fixed version will maintain the menu's presence.

[Regression Potential]

 * Given this is an isolated bugfix, and the package as currently in 16.04 does not work, the risk of regression is low. It has also already been tested via PPA by myself and the original reporter.

Seeing exactly the same issue on 16.04. On 14.04, it works just fine.

You can manually fix it in the html code (element browser from firefox).

Delete "display: none;" in every css-style for "menu.html". After a webpage reload the problem still exist again.

Just a quick FYI that Debian Sid also shows the same issue. Xenial & Yakkety have the same version of icinga (1.13.3-2).

Can you also report this bug to Debian.

Note, after some googling, I foudn an upstream bug report:

Uploaded to Yakkety, thanks. For Xenial, this bug is missing SRU information, so the SRU team will reject. Please complete the SRU information, and I'll leave this in the sponsorship queue for upload to Xenial when you are done.

This FTBFS on various arches. It will need fixing to migrate, I think.

1.13.3-2ubuntu2 should fix the build. Sent to Debian as well.

Note that the FTBFS is not present in the 16.04 version (depends on a newer version of dpkg aiui). So the previously provided patch for icinga_1.13.3-2ubuntu0.1 should be suitable for SRU still.

Confirming that I stumbled into this collapsing menu bug after updating a machine from 14.04 to 16.04 yesterday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wHurBpUTkU I made a video of the menu gracefully vanishing forever. It happens on every refresh on multiple machines.

When (or is) this fix likely to make it to the LTS line?

Hello Ryan, or anyone else affected,

Accepted icinga into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/icinga/1.13.3-2ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!

  * Backport 'Classic UI: fixed menu disappear with jQuery 1.11+'.

    - Do not backport the jQuery source change, as it's not strictly
necessary to fix the syntax; we depend on the system jQuery.
