Bug Description

From: "Walter B. Rasmann" <email address hidden>
To: Debian Bug Tracking System <email address hidden>
Subject: supported printer HP business inkjet 2230 unusable with hpijs/hplip
Date: Mon, 12 May 2008 15:09:12 +0200

Package: hpijs
Version: 2.8.2+2.8.2-1
Severity: important

Once the HP business inkjet 2230 is turned on it only can accept the
first print job. After finishing the first job it stops reacting /
freezes with a blinking led and the display message "PRINTING" and/or
"CANCELLING JOB" (where "READY" would be the normal state). It can
continue printing only after powering the printer off and on again. This
makes the printer completely unusable with hpijs.

The problem does not occur when printing from windows or using
"Gutenprint v5.0.2", which produces poor quality output. hpijs had
worked some time ago, too. Unfortunately I can not tell when it broke...

Here are the settings I use:

Printer: HP2230_HPIJS

Description:
Location:
Printer Driver: HP Business Inkjet 2230 Foomatic/hpijs, hpijs 2.8.2.10 -
HPLIP 2.8.2
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published.
Device URI: parallel:/dev/lp0

Printer: HP2230 (Default Printer)

Description: HP2230
Location:
Printer Driver: HP Business Inkjet 2230 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.2
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published.
Device URI: parallel:/dev/lp0

Any advice appreciated...

Thank you for your time.

Subject: hpijs: older packages

Package: hpijs
Followup-For: Bug #480865

Downgrading following packages solved the initial problem:

        hpijs [2.8.2+2.8.2-1 -> 2.6.10+1.6.10-4.2+lenny1]
        hpijs-ppds [2.8.2+2.8.2-1 -> 2.6.10+1.6.10-4.2+lenny1]
        hplip [2.8.2-1 -> 1.6.10-4.2+lenny1]
        foomatic-db [20080211-2 -> 20061031-1]
        foomatic-db-engine [3.0.2-2008 -> 3.0.2-2006]
        foomatic-db-hpijs [20080211-1 -> 20061031-1]
        foomatic-filters [3.0.2-2008 -> 3.0.2-2006]
        hplip-data [2.8.2-1 -> 1.6.10-4.2]

        gs-gpl [8.62.dfsg. -> 8.54.dfsg.]
        gs-esp 8.15.3.dfs

However, when printing pdf documents with embedded images,
some of the images are printed as black squares. This happens
with the packages from unstable, too, and does not happen
with Gutenprint v5.0.2.

I have also installed the last release (hplip 2.8.5) from
http://hplip.sf.net on another system. The results are exactly
the same.

I too had exactly the same problem with two business inkjet 2230s on ubuntu but stumbled upon a solution.
go to system tools and open printers , this should open a foomatic programme, whether this was in the original installation or whether i added it with synaptic I cant remember, whatever when it opens it lists all printers on the computer.
select the business inkjet 2230 and press configure, then dont select the option that highlights saying print queue but select the business inkjet on its own line, work through as normal, I chose the gutenprint-ijs.5.2 driver, the simplified might work I dont know.when done press apply and after quite a few seconds you are returned to the printer list.you now have two entries for the inkjet, one in part upper case one all in lower, select the lower case one and print a test page, this prints but with printer-driver and description marked as N/A.. now select the other instance of the printer in part upper case and delete it, this seems to take quite a while, when it has disappeared return to the lower case one and print another test page, this time all information is filled in, the printer then works fine,I have done this on two different systems and it definitely works.
best of luck let us know how you get on.

hi together,
since a wek I am using Lucid Lynx successfully. But today I found out, that printers of HP and also other printers are not usable. The error-message says: there is a problem with the print-job and all print-jobs were stopped.

But I didn't receive more details.

Then I went into here: http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/lucid-lynx-bugs-und-warnungen/2/#post-2259339.

There I found several other users with the same problem. It seems, that cus itself has a problem with accepting printjobs.

Please fix this up, as because I need a working printer for bussiness.

Greetings
Linuxexperte
