Camera Import: Checking "Always perform this action" then Ignore does not persist

When plugging in my 16 GB iPhone 3G I get the expected "Camera Import: A camera has been detected" dialog box with the buttons "Ignore" and "Import Photos" with a "Always perform this action" checkbox.

Checking "Always perform this action" and clicking "Ignore" does not persist; unplugging my phone and plugging it back in again results in the same Camera Import dialog box.

I'd expect to never see the dialog box again by selecting "Always perform this action" and clicking "Ignore" since I'd rather do imports manually in F-Spot instead of a dialog box popping up every time I plug in a USB device that Ubuntu thinks has photos on it.

I have see this exact same behavior with my iphone and whatever the latest Ubuntu releases are (I found this bug looking for solutions). If you need more information I will provide it.

Even when disabling autorun for media containing pictures from the nautilus prefs capplet it doesn't work.

A-ha, so the thing is that both nautilus and gvm are fighting over the device. If the handling is disabled in nautilus, a gvm dialog pops up and doesn't obey it's settings.

I got a confirmation, that gnome-volume-manager should not be installed since hardy. So if you've dist-upgraded, you need to purge the package.

filed bug 462855 against computer-janitor, which should purge the package if update-manager didn't.
