Bug Description
Binary package hint: gjiten
Bug reproduction method:
1) Open Gjiten
2) Open kanjidic
3) Close kanjidic
4) Reopen it
5) Check "Search By Radical"
6) Click "Show Radical List"
The list that should be populated is not.
Reproducibility: 100%
Version: Gjiten 2.6-2 provided by Ubuntu 2008.10
Workaround: Restart Gjiten.

but supposedly have already been fixed. Suggest OP to try again with a fresh session (close any running Gjiten, run again, open Kanjidic, mark the 'Search By Radical' checkbox, click on 'Show Radical List'). Unfortunately, due to bug,

...this will only work once. If the Kanjidic window, by any chance, is closed, this will result in the same symptom as said by bug reporter i.e. the list comes out as an empty window. Not only that, the radical search will also not function properly.
Fixed is supposedly already commited in CVS, just waiting for release.
