Bug Description

There is now an opensource firmware for the broadcm wireless chips available, see different threads on the bcm43xx-dev mailing list at berlios.de starting in Jan 09, for example https://lists.berlios.de/pipermail/bcm43xx-dev/2009-January/008547.html . The firmware does not work on all chipsets (yet), but Ubuntu could ship with this firmware to enable the supported chips out of the box, which would be a cool thing for all those users whose only internet connection is their wireless chip. :)

Unfortunately, the latest version openfwwf-5.1 doesn't work for my card yet: BCM4312 [14e4:4312] (rev 01). I find networks, but connection aborts.

On their website ist says:
"Known supported boards until now: 4306, 4311(rev1), 4318 and 4320"

Changed in b43-fwcutter:
status: Unknown → New
