Bug Description

[needs-packaging] processing

"Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and interactions. It is used by students, artists, designers, researchers, and hobbyists for learning, prototyping, and production. It is created to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context and to serve as a software sketchbook and professional production tool. Processing is developed by artists and designers as an alternative to proprietary software tools in the same domain."

I will be packaging this package. I have had a look into what is involved and they provide a build script to build from source so we can work from that. I will also looking into using the GNU gcj as the compiler if possible.

Adam, upstream does provide a compile script, but it's not at all geared towards a package management system like dpkg. The tarball includes things like ecj and a some Java libraries that should be pulled in as dependencies. I've taken a look at it, and believe me, it's not as easy as to package well for dpkg as it might seem at first glance. Let me know if there's any way I can help.

Sorry for the late update to this, this is in progress and I am close to a release. I have had to work on some dependencies and there are a few other things that need a good clean up. I have not had much time to work on this but this has now changed and I can get back to working on this. I am hoping to get this released soon but its not an easy package to create. I was hoping to get this released before Karmic Kola.

Hi,

Sorry progress has been slow, I hit a few issues with dependancies and libarys that needed to be made into a seperate packages and I ran out of free time to finish those. Is there any one who wants to help me finish up this package?

Adam

PLEASE WORK ON THIS BUG. It is SEVEN YEARS already. How come Ubuntu has the Arduino IDE but not its predecessor, the processing IDE?
