Bug Description

Please create package for KBasic - an open source modern Basic IDE and compiler. It supports Qt4 and aims VB and VB.NET compatibility. It has been recently released under GPLv3 and has been tested under Ubuntu Intrepid.

The source code is available here:
http://www.kbasic.com/kbasic_linux_sourcecode.tar.gz

It should be added that Bernd Noetscher, the creator of KBasic has recently requested KBasic to be included in Ubuntu:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/317422

I followed these instructions.

In Linux only the build.sh script has to be called.

However, I have informed upstream in the forum:

It seems that access raghts to KBasic directory are restricted so it is impossible to save preferences after default install of the package.

You should tell this upstream better.

It should make use of XDG_CONFIG_HOME to store the settings.

Why not to open access to one file, namely,

/usr/share/kbasic/ide/kbasic.config

?

Because that is not safe and ignores that multiple users may have different configurations on the same system.
User related config files must be kept on users home dir.

Usually all files in /usr/share are available to all users. If something is blocked it's wrong. I hardly can imagine how it is unsafe.

They are available for reading, not for writing, the issue is that this are per user settings that need to be written.
