As distinctly organized and separate components, parts of BRL-CAD are
made available under different licenses for different portions
including the BSD license and files in the public domain The Overview
below describes how the various licenses apply to the different
portions of BRL-CAD.

Overview
--------

BRL-CAD consists primarily of libraries, applications, scripts,
documentation, geometric models, images, data resources, and build
infrastructure. The BRL-CAD libraries include the headers in the
include/ directory as well as all of the directories that begin with
the prefix "lib" in the src/ directory (e.g. src/librt/). All of
BRL-CAD's libraries, applications, and any content lacking a library
specification are covered by the terms of the LGPL.

Most of BRL-CAD's build infrastructure including files required by the
GNU Build System (such as the configure.ac and all Makefile.am files),
a variety of scripts located in the misc/ and sh/ directories, and the
testing infrastructure (scripts and resources) are provided either
under the BSD license or are in the public domain. Similarly, most of
the geometric models, images, and other data resources are also
provided under the BSD license. Refer to each individual file for
specific terms.

BRL-CAD's documentation consists of manual pages located throughout
the package, most of the files in the doc/ directory, and the
top-level administrative project text files (e.g. README & AUTHORS).
Unless otherwise denoted, all of BRL-CAD's documentation is made
available under the terms of the BSD Documentation License (BDL) or
are in the public domain. Refer to each document for specific terms.

The full text of the LGPL, BDL, and BSD license should be included in
the source distribution of BRL-CAD in the doc/legal/ directory. Refer
to the full license text for more details, information, requirements,
and implications of each license.

3rd-Party Components
--------------------

The BRL-CAD package utilizes and redistributes several 3rd party
source codes, libraries, and applications. Said 3rd party source
code, libraries, and applications all retain their respective
agreements, licenses, and copyrights and should be referred to
individually for their specific terms. For the purposes of
redistribution and legal compatibility for all of BRL-CAD's existing
user base, NO 3RD PARTY LIBRARIES SHALL BE INCLUDED THAT ARE UNDER THE
TERMS OF THE GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE or any other license with
similar legal implications that would impose legal obligations on
external codes that utilize BRL-CAD as a library.

When referring to BRL-CAD, its source code, documentation, and
libraries, the reference is not meant to include or imply 3rd party
source code, libraries, and/or applications unless specifically stated
otherwise. No endorsement or claim of authorship is implied to any
3rd party asset that is included with BRL-CAD. The majority of the
3rd party source code, libraries, and applications included with
BRL-CAD are located in the src/other/ directory of the source code
distribution.

Copyright

requiring all contributions be given back to the BRL-CAD developers,
this agreement allows the BRL-CAD project to continue to grow

for Debian (or if you are going to comaintain this package), set the
owners of the bugs accordingly and merge these two bugs?

Thanks.

An ITP and RFP open on the same software at the same time? Sloppy...
I guess merely checking before opening new ITPs isn't enough and I
should do the same before renaming RFPs... Well, first come first
serve, so I'll merge away mine.

As I said in my ITP, I was waiting for an reply to #349302.

Hello,

This is an automatic mail sent to close the ITP you have reported or
are involved with.

Your ITP wnpp bug is being closed because of the following reasons:
- It is, as of today, older than 365 days.
- It hasn't had any activity recently.

As this is an automatic procedure, it could of course have something
wrong and probably it would be closing some bugs that are not
intended by owners and submitters (like you) to be closed, for
example if the ITP is still of your interest, or there has been
some kind of activity around it. In that case, please reopen the
bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of
mass closing and not let people know that they can easily reopen
their bugs ;-).

To re-open it, you simply have to mail <email address hidden>
with a body text like this:

 reopen 289632
 stop

Further comments on the work done in the bug sent to
<email address hidden> would be truly welcomed.
Anyway, if you have any kind of problems when dealing with
the BTS, feel free to contact me and I'd be more than happy to help
you on this: <email address hidden>.

A similar process is being applied to other kind of wnpp bugs.

Thanks for your cooperation,

Greetings,

BRL-CAD is a bit of a pain. It wants tcl/tk 8.5 or 8.6, and can't work
with Debian's itcl because it links with tcl/tk 8.4. But then BRL-CAD
can't work with the Debian tcl/tk 8.5 packages either. I guess we'll
need to wait for itcl 3.3 upstream, but the RC was more than two years
ago...

Also, it took quite a bit of doing to get ADRT to build, and I can't get
it to do anything useful. And it doesn't recognize that I have Java
installed. And the IGES importer crashed on me.

If you can solve these problems, I'd love to help, this looks like a
great package! But I think for now I'm going to leave BRL-CAD and focus
on Salomé...

Cheers,
-Adam

Hi,

Is anyone still considering packaging this? If it helps, there is a
debian source package at http://scientificcomputing.net/ , it looks like
he has version 7.10.2 packaged right now. Also, upstream released a
binary deb of version 7.8.4, see
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=105292&package_id=113559
. It would be really nice to have this package in debian proper, even if
it's an older version.

Thanks,
Tim

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "brlcad".

* Package name : brlcad
  Version : 7.12.4-1
Upstream Author : Morrison, Christopher Sean <email address hidden>
U.S. Army Research Laboratory Point of Contact
                    Davisson,Edwin O. <email address hidden>

* URL : http://brlcad.org
* License : GPL/LGPL/BSD
  Section : graphics

It builds these binary packages:
brlcad - powerful combinatorial Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG)
brlcad-data - brlcad data files
libbrlcad - powerful combinatorial Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) library
libbrlcad-dev - powerful combinatorial Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) library

BRL-CAD is a powerful combinatorial Constructive Solid Geometry solid modeling
system that includes interactive 3D solid geometry editing, high-performance
ray-tracing support for rendering and geometric analysis, network-distributed
framebuffer support, image and signal-processing tools, path-tracing and photon
mapping support for realistic image synthesis, a system performance analysis
benchmark suite, an embedded scripting interface, and libraries for robust
 high-performance geometric representation and analysis.
 .
BRL-CAD supports a great variety of geometric representations including an
extensive set of traditional CSG primitive implicit solids such as boxes,
ellipsoids, cones, and tori, as well as explicit solids made from closed
collections of Uniform B-Spline Surfaces, Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline
(NURBS) surfaces, n-Manifold Geometry (NMG), and purely faceted mesh geometry.
All geometric objects may be combined using boolean set-theoretic CSG
operations including union, intersection, and difference.

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 289632

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/b/brlcad
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/b/brlcad/brlcad_7.12.4-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards

Most of them are "hyphen-used-as-minus-sign", but I have also

Reviewing needs-packaging bug reports I have concluded that this bug is likely a duplicate of bug 236404. It'd be great if you could help consolidate these bug reports by performing the following actions.

1. Examine both bug reports to determine if they are actually duplicates.
2. Determine which bug report is more complete - a more complete bug report will have a status of Confirmed, Triaged or In Progress, may be assigned to someone or may possess a bug watch.
3. Mark the other bug report a duplicate of the complete one by clicking 'Mark as duplicate' on the right hand side of the bug page.

Thanks for helping out!
