This is a bug in the Feisty kernel, and last time I checked the problem was still there. The real fix is to fix the forcedeth driver in Feisty, as based on what I have seen online this is an ubuntu only bug. If you aren't going to fix Feisty then I suggest you close the bug as WONTFIX and put a comment on it that it works with Hardy - I won't be upgrading production boxes (other than my laptop) to Intrepid anytime soon.
