[Visual appearance v0.708] Task/Tray icon is now low quality ?

It looks much worse than previous version... just like it would have suffered a 16M->256 color dithering.

several icons have changed in version 0.708 (hopefully for the best), but that one is still exactly the same as before...

 - XP Pro SP3
 - Classic Theme, Windows standard colors (Win2K style with Microsoft Sans Serif font for everything, with ClearType)
 - A shot is attached

In this screenshot you can see that the two yellow circles don't seem to have an outer limit... they seem to be fused with white background circle... and white circle seems to fuse with background in a strange way, as it had no outer limit again...

I perfectly know this is a rather useless thread, but i felt that difference inmediately.

you're right, the icon loaded in version 0.708 is 3 times bigger than before and the tray manager has to resize it dynamically, lowering its quality.

will be fixed in the next version.

I'd say that v0.7091 has the same 256-color icon.

I've analayzed 16x16 icon comparing between 8bpp and 32bpp version...

The only difference is in the border (one with transparecncy, other without). I mean, inner colours are exactly the same.

In fact, the only icon different to its 32bpp twin is the 48x48, which has a gradient in gray.

16x16 and 32x32 twins are exactly equal in inner colours.

I have to insist in my 1/Sep/08 post (little yellow circles should suggest some border).

I should have to check with an older EXE, but i'd say they're different.

the underlying icon file is exactly the same since 2004, but the functions used to manipulate icons have changed. can you take screen-shots of each?

I have to admit i'm wrong with this "thread"... just check the attachment and you'll see tray icons are the same.

I also have extracted main EXE icons and it's bit-by-bit equal.

I supose the change from CRT to TFT is what kept me saying icons are different for ages (TFT suxxx at almost anything).

But i've seen that taskbar icon *is* different (just split the attached file into 2 images and compare), it's curious...

And i have to complaint that the two yellow balls seems to be fused in tray icon, but this is only my opinion.
