Is this because of the many different icons it has to pull? If so, maybe you could call two processes, one that displays the "default" or unknown file mime type icon, then one that injects a replacement icon as it loads each icon.

It doesn't exactly HANG. It stops responding for some time and then resumes so all we need is to inject a couple DoEvents in there

Its probably because we use the same process for the main window and to load the folder contents.
