Bug Description

Recently installed indicator-network, connman and ofono

and i've noticed we cannot initiate a 3g modem connection from the indicator applet. going on to network settings in the indicator, and clicking on mobile broadband also does not help as only a blank area listing networks is displayed but no options to add, connect, etc are possible. what's happening?

Difficult to say yet what's wrong. Here's a list to check:

1. Check that ofono is installed

2. What is your modem's usb id? You can check it with lsusb:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ConnMan/ReportingBugs

3. Debug log will help a lot, just run:

indicator-network-debug start

More info here:

I'll help you out with this when i boot back to natty. Lucid is a lifesaver!

Have another modem that I can also test so we'll have two use cases sorted out.

Are we maintaining a separate list for Connman compatible 3G modems from those of the NetworkManager ones? Might be better if its the same list modified in some way. that way easier to find out if a modem works on one or both.

The specific 3G modem you are using is probably not supported. Any way you could clarify which device model and brand it is, and if possible the USB or PCI ID for that device? Then we'll make this bug clearly about that specific device and fix it; other devices can have separate bug reports.

I tried it with a Huawei E1750

i believe the lsusb thing puts it as 12d2:1446. But it works under usb-modeswitch perfectly. So i am not sure if it is still relevant

There needs to be support both at the usb-modeswitch level (to switch the modem to the right mode) and at the ofono level (to know how to talk to it to connect, etc.)

Moving to Ubuntu package; this bug will need to be re-triaged to confirm and report upstream.

Eshwar, is there any additional information you could add to this bug report, such as debugging information for Ofono and ConnMan (see comment #2 from Kalle). Since we can't start working on this bug report until we have more data, I'm marking this "Incomplete".

Thanks!

Hi Mathieu,
Well that would be a problem. As you can see I reported this in March or so. Since then I have moved on to Oneiric Ocelot. I also didn't install Ofono and connman this time because of the experience I had with it leading to said bug. So I am not sure how I can help you now. I don't think a virtual machine would be a good reliable test since access to USB, etc is a little different there isn't it?
