enhance logging of fatal error against specification

I recently experienced an issue where my value changes are not saved at all, the logging on console was: NONE! Either the program needs a routine which checks whether values are saved after they've been changed or it exists and it is buggy or the logging is aweful (I'd consider this a fatal error against the specified behavior to save changed value which should be logged and printed in any case).
