I was typing this command from a Terminal window on a MacBook Pro with English as primary language, but Swedish as "region" and keyboard.

When typing: root@ejk-ubuntu-3:/etc/apache2# man mdir

I get:
man: can't set the locale; make sure $LC_* and $LANG are correct
No manual entry for mdir

could this be a hint?

This does not occur when I use the Console directly on the vmWare-server's vShpere client.

The (non-existing) mdir command entered, (mkdir misspelled), should have returned;
The program 'mdir' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: apt-get install mtools

This happen when typing mdir in a console with correct $LANG, but not in the above scenario.
