Bug Description

Users are reporting the following issue with 5.1.58-21.1:

111001 19:38:27 [Warning] WSREP: gethostname failed, using 'localhost' as default wsrep_node_name

This is repeated several times on startup, even when wsrep_node_name is explicitly set.

One reason for this failure could be hostname exceeding (WSREP_MEMBER_NAME_LEN - 1) which is 31 as of version 21 of wsrep API.

1) this should not happen when wsrep_node_name is set.
2) if wsrep_node_name is not set this warning should happen no more than once.
3) what to do with the WSREP_MEMBER_NAME_LEN limit? Should hostname be truncated or WSREP_MEMBER_NAME_LEN increased to HOST_NAME_MAX? Note that the latter may required a new API version.
