Speech issues - 0.95.15

Bug Description

I have been using Coccinella on several PPC Macs (currently on 10.4.8)
running version 0.95.11. I make use of the voice synth stuff - very
helpful for keeping across jabber sessions.

I've tried .13 and no .15 and found both have problems with the speech -
the playback is very patchy - almost like the audio was being toggled on
and off during the playback.

Should have read "I've tried .13 and now .15". Someone in the office
described the effect like talking while gargling - that probably better
describes the issue.

I have tried the TclSpeech package (which is responsible for synthetic
speech on mac and written by me) on my old 10.2.8 PowerBook, and it works
as expected. This package hasn't changed for several years, why I come to
the conclucion that Apple has changed the way it works on newer OSes.
However, I can't find anything at Apple or elsewhere which describes any
changed that has been made. Have to wait until I get a new Mac to work on.

That's interesting. I'm not sure I quite follow your reasoning for why
you suspect the underlying OS. The synthetic speech facility works
perfectly well (and is very useful I might add) when I run Coccinella
0.95.11 on 10.4.x. It is only when I attempt to use later releases of
Coccinella (ie anything after .11) that I experience problems with the syn
speech.

Ah, that's interesting. I strongly suspect the iaxclient code for voip to
mess up things. Can you do either get the NoVoIP version
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coccinella/Coccinella-0.95.16NoVoIPMacOSX.dmg?download
or just right click the coccinella app you have got to "see inside it",
locate the
Contents/Resources/Scripts/coccinella/bin/macosx/PowerMacintosh/iaxclient/
and throw it (or just move it outside the app). Does that help? On my
10.2.8 it seems OK even with iaxclient.
