Bug Description

Up to and including Xenial, cloud-images.canonical.com hosts root.tar.gz/root.tar.bz rootfs images, which are used by nova-lxd when importing images into glance.

For example, the documentation at https://linuxcontainers.org/lxd/getting-started-openstack/ and also the scripts embedded in the conjure-up spell for deploying NovaLXD use something very similar to:

glance image-create --name="trusty" --public --progress \
--container-format=bare --disk-format=raw \
--copy-from http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/trusty/current/trusty-server-cloudimg-amd64-root.tar.gz

Unfortunately there do not seem to be any root tarballs available for Yakkety and Xenial, has something changed there in the build process?

Dan Watkins (daniel-thewatkins) wrote :

As discussed with Gareth on IRC, more recent versions provide a squashfs which NovaLXD can use successfully. Closing this out.
