Bug Description

Hi, I have Manjaro Linux and installed clamtk v6.14-1 via Pamac 10.4.0-2. clamtk indicates that it has 0 virus signatures, and this does not change once I click update. I was able to update the virus signatures, but only once I found the terminal commands required to do so. I was successful using the commands mentioned at https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/ClamAV

TLDR: clamtk doesn't come with any virus signatures when installed on Manjaro, and updates via the GUI don't work. The only way to get virus signatures was by typing commands into Terminal.

Hi,

Let's see if there are any errors happening.

First, open a terminal window. Type "clamtk" (without quotes), and then go to the update screen. Try to update. If there is any text in the terminal window, please post it back here.

respectfully,
Dave M

Hi Dave,

You suggested I type "clamtk" in the terminal and then try to update.
Did you mean update by interacting with the clamtk GUI, or by issuing a
new command within the terminal window?

Anyway, I was already able to download signatures (effectively updating
the application and making it useful) by issuing all the commands
mentioned at https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/ClamAV

The instructions at the aforementioned cleared up the issue, but I
reported the bug because the clamtk GUI could not update without me
going into terminal - thus negating the convenience and ease of use of
the GUI.

Thanks for your prompt reply,
David

Hi David,

You can update from the GUI. By default, it looks for signatures installed by root since a lot of distros download them automatically. Makes it work out of the box, so to speak.

If you want, use the Update Assistant to switch to manual updates, then try to update.

Dave M

Hi Dave,

The computer I had been using when I reported the problem physically broke. I was without a personal computer for a long time. However, I recently got a new one, put Manjaro Linux on it, and am pleased to report that downloading malware definitions was a lot easier compared to when I first tried using ClamTK.

The definitions did not download immediately after I clicked on intuitive options. I think I had to set ClamTK to automatically download updates until I saw evidence that the program had loaded malware definitions.

Thanks,
David
