The problem is since upgrade to 13.10 from 13.04
I did:
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove cinnamon
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get update -f
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get remove .*cinnamon.*
sudo apt-get remove .*nemo.*
I can login from lightdm to unity.
Reinstall cinnamon-stable ppa unity not starting.
Here is someone with the same problem:

Please do not report bugs about software in PPAs on Launchpad. This is because software in PPAs are not provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Instead, the PPA homepage would have a contact point and preference of the PPA provider.
Thusly, this is now invalidated against Unity, Linux Mint and Ubuntu. Please bring this issue up with the PPA maintainer.
