driver exception swallowed during retype

Bug Description

If a driver raises an exception during retype, only a generic message is printed by the manager. It would help debugging if the original exception was printed as well.

    Print driver exception on retype

    If the driver raises an exception, make sure it is printed. Also change
    the logging level from info to error because an exception should not be
    thrown under normal conditions.
