MySQL charm's "start" hook fails to complete

Bug Description

I am attempting to deploy the MySQL charm to a Juju environment on Digital Ocean. After bootstrapping the environment, I can successfully deploy other charms, such as nginx and python-django. However, MySQL fails to complete the "start" hook.

According to /var/log/mysql/error.log (which is attached to this bug):

140408 22:09:33 InnoDB: Fatal error: cannot allocate memory for the buffer pool

I am running the latest Juju release on Trusty. Juju is deploying Precise images with 512MB of RAM. However, I encountered the same problem when I tried again with a 1 GB server. Personally, I doubt this is related to free memory since I can deploy PostgreSQL and Python/Gunicorn on a 512 MB server with room to breathe.
