MySQL tests are disabled/do not work with Python3

Bug Description

While adding an unrelated unit test, I discovered that the tests in tests/contrib/database/test_mysql.py are disabled. I re-enabled them to see what would happen, fixed a python3 incompatibility in contrib/database/mysql.py, and ran `make test`.

The unit test, while only having 28% coverage, passes under Python2 but fails under Python3.
