Cardapio is sensitive to special caracters

I don't know if it's a bug report or a blueprint.. But for example searching "mises a" does not give results while "mises à" return "mises à jour" (update-manager).

It could be easier to use if it was not sensitive to accent, especially for research on folder and files.

Good catch. Even though it is technically a feature request, it sure is a paper cut that needs to be fixed. Searches are case insensitive so they should be accent / umlaut insensitive as well.

Although this bug can be fixed for all queries within the Applications, Places, and System menus, to make it work for some plugins (such as Tracker) would require requesting that feature to be added to their respective dependencies (i.e. Tracker itself, in the case of the Tracker plugin).

For now, though, I will limit my efforts to finding the best solution for the regular menus only. Then, in a second moment, we can try to see how to solve this for Tracker and other plugins.

Probably related to that: Right now it seems to me that Cardapio's file search and bookmark search are case sensitive, while the software search is not. I guess it would be nice to have all searches equally case insensitive... I have no idea how hard this is to implement though.

About file search: Which version of Tracker do you have? With Tracker 0.9.x and above, file search is case-insensitive. (With 0.8.x it is case-sensitive due to a missing feature that the Tracker guys implemented later on)

About bookmark search: I didn't write that plugin, but I will take a look at it. Thanks for catching this!

All right, then that must be it! I'm using 0.8.x, which is also the only version I can find in the repositories... but that's fine, then I'll just wait until it's going to be updated at some point. Thank you!

Hi all, this bug affects me too. I'd like to add that the Google search plugin returns no results at all when using accents or special characters (like in "Français" or "téléphone"). Maybe this needs a separate bug report ?

Hi nodiscc, I just posted an updated to Cardapio trunk that fixes the issue you reported above (comment #8). It should hit the PPA in a couple of days.
