Bug Description

When installing unity8-session on an ubuntu-core image on KVM and running it, the session doesn't start. An infinite stream of error messages from upstart can be seen, similar to this:

upstart: ubuntu-push-client main process (7148) terminated with status 2
upstart: ubuntu-push-client respawning too fast, stopped
upstart: unity8-dash main process (7186) killed by ABRT signal
upstart: unity8-dash main process ended, respawning
upstart: unity8-dash main process (7215) killed by ABRT signal
upstart: unity8-dash main process ended, respawning

Tested on the current unity8-session snap in the edge channel.

I was able to run unity8-session snap on ubuntu-core in a vm
However, I was not using the unity8-session snap from the edge channel but the silo
this particular build
https://launchpad.net/~unity-team/+snap/unity8-session-silo/+build/11182

it also takes well over 30 seconds for something to visually appear.

at a minimum, need to get the snap updated on the edge channel

for reference ubuntu-core snap versions were
core 16.04.1 394 canonical -
pc 16.04-0.8 9 canonical -
pc-kernel 4.4.0-45-4 37 canonical -

OK, I believe this is fixed in latest edge version. I've added a couple env vars that we expect lightdm to set for us (and since we aren't being launched by lightdm here, we need to adjust assumptions).

You'll still see some error spew. But that's normal:
- ubuntu-push-client (no AccountsService yet, waiting for a Core snap for that)
- unity8-policy-kit (no PolicyKit, waiting on snapd folks to tell us how that should work)
- maliit-server (hardcoded paths, see bug 1629009)

And maybe some other transient errors like pulseaudio-trust-stored not finding Mir before restarting and being OK, etc.

But your session should come up.

(You also won't see any apps in the app scope right now... but that's probably a temporary UAL issue. If not we can look into it, but that should be a separate bug.)

Thanks! Let me give it a spin in that case, awesome.
