Bug Description

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ system-image-cli -i
current build number: 30
device name: krillin
channel: ubuntu-touch/stable/bq-aquaris.en
last update: 2016-02-24 21:46:53
version version: 30
version ubuntu: 20160217.1
version tag: OTA-9.1
version device: 20160108-efc96d8
version custom: 20160111-926-36--vivid

How to reproduce:
1) Wipe from the left, to get the unity launcher
2) Scroll to the top of the launcher bar
3) Tap on the "dekko" icon
4) Dekko doesn't start

After reboot the phone will work fine again. I dont now how to reproduce, but my suspicion is, that multiple restarts of dekko (after moving from one network to another dekko does not to receive emails - see #1520693) causes the problem. At the moment dekko is the only app involved by this issue.

Hi Pat, thanks for the report.

I haven't been able to reproduce this myself yet. I'll try some more though. Does the loading splash screen show after tapping Dekko in the launcher or does it do nothing?

In the next update Dekko will have a completely new backend and changes have been made to how it handles network events. So I wonder if this has already been fixed in trunk.

bug 1520693 should actually already be fixed as well (i'll add that to the 1.0-beta milestone) as the cause of that issue was a rather subtle bug, that after a few reconnects or connectivity type changes the network watcher and imap client were getting out of sync on what the connected state of the socket should be when using the ubuntu connectivity api.

I'll add this to the next milestone and we'll see if we can reproduce it with the new changes before next release.

Changed in dekko:
milestone: none → 1.0-beta

Could you reproduce the issue then attach the following files
 * ~/.cache/upstart/unity8.log
 * ~/.cache/upstart/application-click-dekko.dekkoproject_dekko_*.log

thanks.

Thanks Michael :-)

This sounds like a possible unity8 issue then. I had a report for the same a few months back, i can't find it now but turned out to be in unity8.

If you can reproduce it again does Dekko still start from the app scope when it doesn't from the launcher?

Cheers

#dan that was bug #1541388. I opened this new bug as it has a similar symptom but was specific to Dekko, at least for now.
Per comment #8 on that bug it does start from the scope

Ok so i experienced this a few times earlier while I was out.

The strange thing is when i try to open Dekko in the launcher and it doesn't seem like it worked if I keep the screen alive, but not open any other apps eventually Dekko starts to open about a minute or so later.

I'll try and reproduce again and grab the unity8 log.
