PDF cropping ignored

I have a PDF which I have cropped very tightly using the Briss Java application (a similar feature would be fantastic in Calibre, btw!). I'm sure you know that cropping a PDF doesn't actually delete the content outside of the crop - it essentially just hides it when viewers pay attention to the boundary region.

However, the ebook-convert application in the latest OS X release of Calibre seems to ignore the crop region and this results in MOBI output that contains file headers and footers - which is very frustrating.

Could you please use the crop information that is contained in the PDF?

calibre uses pdftohtml from the poppler project to turn the pdf into html for calibre to work with. This is an upstream bug with pdftohtml and cannot be fixed by us.

Will you be reporting this upstream? You'll have more clout with poppler than I will.

I don't remember it it was reported or not. However, we are in the process of moving away form pdftohtml and using a different solution. However, development of the new solution is currently stalled and there is no time frame of when it will be finished.

I'm sure many people will be looking forward to it - tightly cropping a PDF past the headers/footers is one of the best ways to remove clutter and should also improve the quality of conversions.
