Bug Description

Upgraded to Calibre 0.8.7 (Windows Vista) this morning. When I tried to sinc my Kobo e-reader this afternoon I got the following error:

calibre, version 0.8.7
ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device

no such column: ___ExpirationStatus

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 81, in run
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 332, in _books
File "site-packages\calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 213, in books
OperationalError: no such column: ___ExpirationStatus

Calibre cannot seem to connect to my reader at all.

Which device do you own? Original, Wifi or Touch? You firmware is probably out of date. Either update the firmware or send me the output of your dbversion table and schema for your Content table.

I use an original Kobo. Per your instructions, I logged into the Kobo store (normally I only use Calibre to manage my ebooks) and updated my firmware. Calibre is now communicating perfectly with the device. Thanks for your help.

Perfect. Saves me some work ;-) I am going to leave this bug open until I fix the issue with the original firmware though. Thanks for reporting it.

Hi Tim, I just had the same thing happened to me, same error message. But as far as I can tell my firmware is all updated. I believe this just started after the last update I did with calibre, however that could just be a coincidence. I have the original device, with the bluetooth sync. I have a Macbook pro.

Hi!
I turns out that I didn't have the updated firmware!! I'm so sorry for the confusion. I now have the update and calibre is working again! Thanks

No problem. I will try to find out when that field was added and
patch the issue.
