Really a couple of suggestions.

Sort By should either be in the default Search bar toolbar settings, or always be where it is in Grid view… i.e. at the left end of the Search bar. IMO its far too useful to be relegated to an also ran ;)

And it should have a menu item for Re-apply current sort… AFAIK that action can only be accessed via a shortcut (default is F5), which seems inconsistent with one of calibre's UX design principles… a clickable something for everything.

@kovid: I can do the changes to the menu.

I'll leave it to you to decide what to do about the defaults. Personally I
don't want it always to the left as that takes screen space. Having it to
the right by default on new installs makes sense, as I can remove/move it.

And while we are talking about defaults, I wonder if the All Actions menu
ought to show on the tool bar by default on new installs. This would help
with discoverability.

The menu change is fine. As for having it placed there by default, I am
not a fan. The normal book list implements the common sort paradigm of
clicking on table headers. Sort By is for more advanced usage and is
therefore not needed in the common use case. It's needed by default for
grid view because grid view has no other means to sort.

Change to the menu to add "reapply current sort".

Fixed in branch master. The fix will be in the next release. calibre is usually released every alternate Friday.
