1. Add book search button for selected item
2. Differentiate the category name from the note text in the list - with different font, colour, style ?

Another useful wrinkle would an option to only show notes that are pertinent to the currently Selected Book(s)

Fixed in branch master. The fix will be in the next release. calibre is usually released every alternate Friday.

I'm afraid showing only notes for the currently selected books is a lot of work for technical reasons, not worth it to me, patches welcome.
