metadata in PDF very slow or gives errors

including metadata in some callibre PDFs takes up to 5 minutes or more.
I detected this bug five or more versions ago.

I dont know what you mean. Provide an exact set of steps to reproduce
your issue alongwith a PDF file that demonstrates it.

The PDFs I generate are created in Word 2013 and Acrobat Pro, the pdfs that give errors are the ones that have many hyperlinks or section breaks.

PoDoFo maintainer here: the issue with slow saving should be fixed (possibly included in calibre betas[1]?), but that was not causing PoDoFo exceptions. If even with latest fixes there are other errors related to PoDoFo these should be reported separately.
