Calibre 5.41 (x64, run from source)
Tthe "undo" option is always active on the identifier field. Using it when there were no changes clears the field, unless the next/previous buttons were in use, in which case it overwrites the field with the contents of the last-viewed book.

Fixed in branch master. The fix will be in the next release. calibre is usually released every alternate Friday.
