Bug Description

I have Ubuntu 20.04 installed, and Calibre 5.3 works fine there.
But I use from time to time the same version 5.3 Portable with WINE 5.0 configured to emulate a Win10 for consulting other libraries at the same time.
When I try to open Calibre 5.3 I get this error:

Unhandled error
There was an error initializing the bypy frozen importer:
<class 'MemoryError'>
Traceback (most recent call last):
File bypy-importer.py, line250 in <module>
File bypy-importer, line 195, in _init_

And it's impossible even to open it.
It's nor very important 'cause I use it in Ubuntu and version 3.48 works fine with WINE, but i wonder if you coud fix that malfunction.

Thanks a lot.

Why do you think you need to run calibre for Windows via WINE? Just use
the Linux binaries.

If you need to check other libraries, use the Switch Library feature.

And I think I can't open two separate instances of Calibre to do so.

Why not just use virtual libraries? Alternatively, why do they need to be
compared like that?

Using a Windows emulator to do an end run around the database locking is
pretty strange.

I'm afraid running under WINE is not a supported use case for calibre.
If you need to compare books in two libraries, presumably to find
duplicates, you can do so already via the Find Duplicates plugin.

Thank you for your answer, Kovid
I do understand. Maybe the problem isn't in Calibre, but in WINE.
However, versions 3.48 and 4.23 do work fine in WINE, so it's enough for me at the moment.

I do use Find Duplicates, but sometimes you have to open both books because the answers Find Duplicates gives are not so clear.

On the other way, Eli, I've got several libraries that I can't put them togheter in one and then just separate them virtually. Though the big one (Thousands of books) is divided in virtual libraries as well to separate different origins of the books.

I'll wait, I'll go on searching and using version 3.48 or 4.23 instead.
Calibre is a wonderfull piece of software. I think that all who use it try to get the most of it. No matter the system, anywhere or any way.
Thank you anyway.
