E-book viewer: the "Alter the current selection" feature doesn't seem to work

Bug Description

1. Open the Quick Start Guide that comes with Calibre in E-book viewer.
2. Select any text and press Ctrl+Shift+ArrowLeft (the default shortcut for "Alter the current selection backwards by a word"). Nothing happens, while the selection, IIUC, should become one word bigger, expanding to the left.

Same situation with Ctrl+Shift+ArrowRight and "Alter the current selection forward by a word" respectively.

Calibre version: 5.3,
OS: Windows 10 Home 1803.

Fixed in branch master. The fix will be in the next release. calibre is usually released every alternate Friday.
