Bug Description

1. I created a custom column "checked" ("yes" if the file is verified & good; "no" if the file is verified & no good)
2. I erronously set the default value to "no" ("checked" should be empty on default, as the file is yet to be verified)
3. I restarted calibre to update changes
4. I then tried to dlete the default value by setting it to an empty string "".
5. I clicked Apply; nothing happened, default is still "no"
6. I clicked OK; nothing happened, default is still "no"
7. I restarted calibre on each try; nothing happened, default value is still "no"
