Bug Description
Pretty simple request, really. I download metadata from Amazon so I can see the comment/blurb as “more information” on my reader. However, although calibre has a well-defined routine to smarten punctuation, the metadata comment editors (individual and review downloaded metadata dialogs) lack that feature. It’s possible to work around this limitation in the individual metadata dialog by switching to the “HTML source” view and manually replacing each instance with the appropriate entities, but being able to apply it as easily as the Change Case or Remove Formatting options would be MUCH easier.
It would also be nice to be able to do this with titles, authors, and other “core” metadata fields - again, as is possible with Change Case - but with less text in those fields (not to mention the lack of a full-fledged editor for them), the absence there is more understandable and easier to work around.
Calibre version: 4.14
OS: Windows 10, 32-bit
Fixed in branch master. The fix will be in the next release. calibre is usually released every alternate Friday.
