Bug Description

Why does the ebook viewer need to modify epub files each time that they are opened?
It makes no sense, and it creates a big problem when I have to check the integrity or the udated files, because it modifies each opened file. Plus it opens the path for data corruption.
Please allow to set an option that prevents modification of the epub files when they're opened with the ebook viewer.

Which is this option? Is it the
"remember the current page"
or
"keep a copy of bookmarks/current page inside ebook file"?
Whatever it is, it should be set to off by default. Modifying a file after opening it goes against the standard behaviour of programs. I've never seen before a viewer or an editor that modifies the opened file without asking for the permission to modify the existing file. This is very wrong.

In your opinion, it is wrong. Thankfully, you dont get to decide what
the defaults for software you dont write are.

Yeaaahhh. Way to go. Thankfully. Yeahhh.
Your next image viewer will modify your precious photos each time you open them for viewing, increasing the wear of your disks and corrupting your pictures. And you won't have a reliable backup because rsync was overloaded with new data and you couldn't fit all the new files to a DVD. You'll lose years of your life. Yeaaahhh. Thankfully.

Is that the future that you want? It sucks.
You should modify the default option and disable writing the index to the file because it makes backups a mess.
