Bug Description

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is a bug or my preferences are messed up or I can't find the proper checkbox to get rid of this but I have a problem with the last line of my Epub ebooks being cut when reading books on my computer using the E-book viewer application.

This is what's happening:

and then if you go to the next page, the top is the other cut off portion:

Sometimes it chops that last line in a way that you can't even read it. If you don't see it, try resizing the viewer and then use forward/back to check out the bottom of pages.

I've attached the epub as an example. This epub is saved from a webpage (maybe that's the issue?). Epub renders perfectly on iPad and Kobo and those don't cut the last line.

How do I fix this? Why doesn't Ebook Viewer shift that last line that doesn't fit onto the next page? It makes Ebook Viewer extremely annoying since I always have to resize it to see the last line.

Thanks!

Version: calibre (calibre 3.27.1) under Linux. Also happens on Mac.

Use paged mode not flow mode (the yellow scroll icon in the top right corner of the
window). In flow mode the viewer works like a browser, where you can
scroll by pixels rather than pages, so just as in a browser you can get
cutoff lines.

Kovid, that is paged mode.

Then there is likely some non-reflowable content in the file. Convert it
to either MOBI or ODCX and then convert that back to EPUB and you should
be fine.

I've been having this same problem with the ebook viewer for years, and I recently discovered that the same bug manifests when I convert epub and mobi files to pdf.

When it was just the viewer, I could just resize the window periodically to compensate, but that's obviously not an option for a pdf file.

I'm experiencing the same issue (on Calibre 3.21). I routinely convert my azw books to pdf in order to read them with my book reader of choice, and performing an intermediate conversion to mobi doesn't help - lines are still cut.

Well attach one of these files and I will take a look, but the only way I know offor that to happen is if the book contains some non-reflowable markup.
