Before the update the program used to load in seconds.

Not sure what I can do about that. Something on your system is
interfering with calibre operation. Typical culprits are antivirus
programs. Try disabling your antivirus and see. Other possibilities:
1) Lots of accumulated obsolete updates, which you can clean out using
windows disk cleanup tool run as administrator
2) Some other program that is interfering with calibre, you can try
restarting windows in safe mode to minimize the number fo running
programs to see if this is the case.
3) A failing hard disk. Which you can test by movin the calibre libary
folder to another disk.
