Bug Description

The add-in KoboUtilities checks for firmware updates. This morning it updated my Kobo Glo to version 4.8.10956. Promptly after restarting the Kobo device and connecting to Calibre I got the message firmware not supported and I may have to do a factory reset. This is obviously not my preferred option. Device works fine. I can add books but can't delete or change books already in the device. Calibre version is 3.22.1 (64bit), Windows 10 OS.

The latest calibre release was before the latest Kobo firmware release. Hence, it did not include the update to recognise the latest firmware version. The update will be checked in today ready for the next calibre release.

In the meantime, the message you see when the new firmware is detected includes instruction to allow the driver to handle the update. For this firmware and calibre version, it is perfectly safe to do this. In fact, it has been a while since this was not the case. But, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Also, when you see new firmware on your Kobo device, I recommend looking in the Kobo forum at MobileRead (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=223). As soon as any new Kobo firmware is seen, there will be a thread opened to discus it. I usually post early in this thread with the details I know of the firmware including the status of the calibre and the firmware.

Thanks for the feedback and quick fix David/Kovid!

Very quick work! I will check the forum and will allow the driver to handle
the update in the mean time.

Best regards

Ron

Thanks! I had the problem for a little while and decided to look for answers. Meanwhile I was upgrading calibre. I didn't find any answers, but I wondered if maybe the update held a fix. Great to find that indeed it did. The database on my device now gets updated and the changelog proves that you are the reason. Much appreciated!!
