Freezes on Merge Books and Delete operations

Using Calibre 3.9 but it also happened with the previous version on Windows 10 (64 bit).

When I Select multiple formats of a title to merge ('M' key or right-click, Edit Metadata, Merge book records)or when I attempt to delete a book record (via Delete key or right click method), Calibre freezes and remains frozen. I have let it run overnight to see whether it will unfreeze but it does not.

I can close Calibre, and when I reopen it, the Merge and Delete processes have been completed. When I close I get the Windows "This program has stopped responding" message.

Edit > Updated to 3.12 and it still happens.

From your description, most likely the merge confirmation dialog is
appearing offscreen. You can use a technique like the one described

to check.

No, the merge confirmation dialog (and delete dialog) appear. It is after I press the 'Yes' that the freeze happens. (The 'Show this confirmation again' box is checked.)

Then it is one of the other items on the list. Look through it and see
if any apply.
