[enhancement] change default bulk edit metadata from replace column to append or prepend to prevent accidental loss of data if the user forgets to change the setting

There is no undo for bulk edit metadata.

The default action as to what happens to the destination column is set to replace.
Could you please either add an opt out warning to alert the user that the field is set to replace, or an option in tweaks to preset preferences, or the default setting to append.

I hate hitting apply only to see at the last second that the destination field is being replaced and then having to go into Windows to reset the library to a previous version.

Replace is a perfectly appropriate default for a tab named search & replace. I dont think replacing si an unexpected action in this context.
