According to that debug output your device is being successfully
detected. Look for the rotating jobs spinner int he bottom right corner
of calibre that will indicate calibre is talking to the device.

That device is reporting it has no storage available, which is why calibre refuses to connect to it.
This can usually be fixed by rebooting both the device and the computer. Also sometimes faulty/failing
SD cards cause it. If you have an SD card in the device, try removing it.

Problem solved: my Moto G5 plus was not set to share files via USB. After going into settings and All Apps, then selecting Android System WebView, I set notifications to Show Silently. Then after I connected the phone to PC, swiped down from top and got a Notification from Android System of USB charging this device, tap for more options. Then choose Transfer files when it asks Use USB to?
Now Calibre works beautifully. May have to do this every time you connect to Calibre.
