Bug Description

I have been using Calibre for a long time. Since this morning (for the first time), I can not use the programme anymore. The computer (HP laptop, Windows 8) crashes so dramatically that I had to remove the battery 5 times.

Version: last week was the last update. The program does not open anymore so can't check version.

When I tried to start Calibre from a Windows tile, I got the following error message:

Python function terminated unexpectedly [Errno 232]. The pipe is being closed (Error Code: 1).

Please help. I am an avid reader!

Thank you and regards,

Brigitte

Sadly your description does not give the requiried details to identify your installation; so that report is useless as it is. You may have posted on ubuntuforums to get help first, and/or filed a bug using 'ubuntu-bug calibre' which is available from the recovery boot mode (at least).

I am having the same problem. After using Calibre with no issues since purchasing this new laptop a year ago with no problems. No when I click to open Calibre within 15 seconds my whole computer locks down and I have to do a hard restart.

I am running windows 8.1 on a Toshiba laptop. I reset my laptop and reinstalled it worked for a few days then it started freezing the whole computer. I tried reinstalling last night with no success.

I ran the command prompt "calibre-debug -g and it locked up for 10 seconds then opened Calibre.

This is what it says on the command prompt:

Calibre 2.33 is frozen: True is 64bit: False
Windows-8-6.2.9200 Windows <'32bit', 'WindowsPE'>
32bit process running on 64bit windows
<'Windows' , '8' , '6.2.9200'>
Python 2.7.9
Windows: <'8' , '62.9200' , '' , 'Multiprocessor Free'>
Starting up in 15.95 seconds with 1367 books

I have Calibre version 2.33 Updated at reinstall yesterday. Any help would be appreciated since I rely heavily on Calibre.

calibre cannot cause your PC to freeze, it contains no kernel mode code. Most probably, you
have a lot of old windows update files lying around, which causes window to appear to freeze
once per boot. You can delete them and you should be fine. See this link:
